The Jarrow March lobbies IDS

Iain Duncan Smiths are ready for going to the colleges of Tottenham, Waltham Forest and Chingford!

On the 4th November, before the national demonstration on the 5th November in Trafalgar Square, the Jarrow March will be going from CONEL (College of North East London) in Tottenham to Iain Duncan Smith’s surgery in Chingford.

To build for the lobby Iain Duncan Smiths 2 and 3 will be gracing the colleges of the area to ask what young people think of his government’s failure to provide a decent future for young people.

They will write their views on the back of the ‘Wanted’ postcards to be handed in to Iain Duncan Smith.

The Jarrow March will be going through Tottenham to highlight the effects of high unemployment (54 jobseekers for every 1 vacancy – highest in London!), the scrapping of EMA and the closures of youth clubs and demanding that young people have the right to a decent future!

Iain Duncan Smith famously said that young people ‘should get on a bus find work’. He was referring to Merthyr which has one of the highest unemployment figures in the country. Well, Iain, young people are marching 330 miles to London to demand work! are you prepared to meet them?

(Youth Fight for Jobs also organised a march from Merthyr to Cardiff in the build up to the Jarrow March and in response to Iain Duncan Smith’s outrageous comments.)
